May 5th: Wendy Alexander to Support Independence Referendum

Today's edition of the Herald leads with this story about Wendy Alexander's supposedly shock uturn to come out and support a referendum on Scottish independence. This is welcome news. But not as surprising as some make out. The Herald article was written by Douglas Fraser, the paper's Scottish political editor. This morning I emailed Douglas:

Hi Douglas

Your lead article today about Wendy Alexander supporting an Independence Referendum was interesting and may seem like a shock u-turn to many Herald readers.

But not to the readers of my own Scottish Patient blog as I explanied why this was about to happen as far back as 11th September 2007 (after getting a tip off from a trustworthy source).

The piece I wrote back then was headlined: "Is Wendy Alexander Considering Support For An Independence Referendum?"
