Oct 30th: Maw Broon's Cookbook

Maw Broon's Cookbook is just the pressie to get for every calorie-counting food faddista you've ever met. It's got all the recipes that have made Scotland the hard-as-fuck nation (with respect to arteries) that we are today. Including stovies, clootie dumpling, tablet and bacon-and-egg pie.

"Maw's breakfast recipe includes fried eggs, scones, potato bread, lorne sausage and black pudding. She recommends it is followed by a cup of tea with three sugars or a can of lager."

From tomorrow 1000 free copies are being given away in Henderson's Bistro in Hanover Street. Hurry on down. But remember to say you heard it first on The Scottish Patient.

Hi Kev,

Was pissed off not to make it to the launch. Still you can tell me about it over tea and scones on Friday. I'll get myself down to Hendersons for a freebie Broons book the morrow. Have you seen this article about Rebel Inc on the Guardian Blogs - here

Now this is a topic we can really get our teeth into.

When it comes to food and drink in Scotland we have been deprived, in order that we do not rise above our station. As well as deprived we have been systematically deluded, conned, tricked and ultimately bamboozled.

Advertisers and their lackeys in the media have promoted an approach to every decade:

In the 60's it was go to work on an egg.

In the 70's it was for mash get Smash.

In the 80´s it was a plastic Pot Noodle.

In the 90´s it was a deep fried Mars bar.

In the new millenium it is Jamie, rather than Jim, that ´ll fix it.

Bake your own bread!!!
