Apr 5th: Irvine Welsh In Conversation With Emer Martin
I've seen Irvine doing a few public readings, etc, over the years. And at almost every one of them there's a self-obsessed nutter there who wants to talk endlessly about themselves. (No, not me). Thankfully this event was no exception. Best of all the nutter-of-the-night had brought his teenage son along, who sat cringing with embarassment at everything groovy dad had to say. Hugely entertaining in its own way. Emer read three extracts from her third novel, Baby Zero, and spraffed away with Irvine about this that and the next, before hitting the boozers hard.
Soon as midnight came, the church bells chimed for Good Friday and the pub shutters came doon everywhere. WTF?? We were cast out on the mean streets of Dublin like lost alcoholic souls in a dry purgatory. Staggering aimlessly and cursing them Irish Catholics and their fetishistic Jesus cult. What about the water intae wine miracle ya bams? Indeed.
