Mar 26th: Sweet Little Lies

Today the Britman newspaper - on its front page naturally - claims that Westminster will need to organise a second referendum on Scottish Independence before it can be validated. So-called "experts" are dragged in from academia to say so, so it must be true. The "experts" being a politics professor from Strathclyde University, called John Curtis, who gets wheeled out by the British establishment from time to time. And some geezer called Allan Trench from the Constitution Unit at Unversity College London. Never heard of them? Funny that.
A couple of academic patsies say exactly what was expected of them by the editors who rang them up, and hey presto: a Britman front page designed to chime with the current unionist propaganda strategy of Independence = "constititional chaos". There will be plenty more of this nonsense between now and May 3rd. Here's an ingenuously alternative take on the matter called Sweet Little Lies.

To say that John Curtice is a propagandist for the Union is utter nonsense. He's one of the most well respected academics and political commentators in Scotland.
You do the pro-independence arguments no favours with your own little lies..

Anon - in yer blinkered rush to accuse me of "little lies" concerning the academic John Curtice, you didnt actually bother reading the post.
No one said he was "a propagandist for the union" as you claim. What was written was that John Curtice is a academic regularly "wheeled out by the British establishment". And so he is. Such as in The Scotsman article. Yesterday.
Professor Curtice seems to think that Westminster will neeed to hold a second refrendum on Scottish Independence. In his dreams, maybe. If a "respected academic" thinks that Scots either desire or will allow Westminster, of all places, to organise a second refrendum on our Independence, then he's living in cloud cuckoo land.
Alex Salmond said as much on 30th Nov 2005 at the launch of the Independence Convention. He expaliend why: we remember all too clearly the rigged constitional referendum of 1979 organised by Westminster.
John Curtice stepped beyond the mark as an interpreter of opinion polls and elections to throw a red herring to the Unionists just six weeks before this Independence Election.
Curtice gave The Britman exactly the copy they what wanted to hear, and they duly splashed his personal opinions across their front page to create an impression of "constitutional chaos".
Much the same refrain was heard from George Foulkes on Newsnight two weeks ago. It is part of the mantra of the British establishment.
Like I said, this article was based on nothing more than the prejudices and guesses of two academics. Nae doubt, by May 3rd, we'll be hearing plenty from more those dubbed as "experts" by the British establishment.

But surely everyone's opinion counts in a democracy;)

Your confusing democracy with the media. Not everyone's opinions count in the corporate media. Just the select few who are given access to the media by the editors.

Very true Kev, in fact it amazes me how so many on the periphery manage to wax lyrical in the media.

good video, i might have to use that.
p.s. i have met joh curtice several times and he is an apologist for the establishment.

What a load of crap. Slandering two respected constitutional commentators because you don't understand the arguments they make.
You're a complete tit.
